Andrews Family Benefit Night

Seven year old Hamish Andrews was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma.as an infant, and after lengthy radiation treatment appeared to be on the mend. Unfortunately only a matter of weeks ago two further tumours were discovered in his brain with the cancer spreading down his spinal column. He now has to take a dose of Chemotherapy every day. It is fair to say that Hamish is once again battling against the odds for survival. 

The Andrews family are the typical working class family from Milperra in Sydney’s Western Suburbs and all three boys attend Milperra Public School. Mother Lyndell and father Mark both work demanding jobs yet provide an abundance of love and support for their three children, Lachlan – 9 years old, Hamish – 7 years old and Campbell – 4 years old. However in this, the worst of testing times, this wonderful family is strained both emotionally and financially.

 I have had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Hamish and his family through volunteering for Camp Quality. I have been Hamish’s companion for two years now and also have spent quality time with the family outside of Camp Quality.

 It is with this thought that I am organizing a Benefit Fundraising night in an attempt to ease both these emotional and financial strains, so that this most precious of time can be spent valuably with each other, and with Hamish. This occasion is focused on raising money to assist with the financial burden involved with Hamish medical treatment, as well as providing them with an abundance of special memories.

The benefit night is being held at the Bulldogs Leagues Club on a Saturday 7th August 2010. The night will consist of a three course meal, drinks, light entertainment and an auction of various items all to raise money for the family.
